3 Signs it Might Be Time to Find a New Staffing Agency

May 16, 2016 Staffing

Is your staffing agency living up to your expectations? Or are you sticking with them because that’s just the way you’ve always done things?

It’s a good idea to regularly check in with how happy you are with your staffing provider. Here are some key signs it might be time to move on to a new temp staffing agency.

Long Time to Fill

One of the reasons you chose to use a staffing agency was likely to get qualified candidates faster. So the time it takes for a staffing agency to get you a candidate is incredibly important. If your staffing agency takes an eternity to fill positions, it might be time to reevaluate.

Be aware that many factors impact time to fill. Some of these are decisions that you as the staffing client make, such as pay rate. If your pay rate is well below average, the position will likely take longer to fill. And many factors outside of both your and the staffing agency’s control play a role, such as the unemployment rate. The supply of candidates in a given field, like the well-publicized shortage of CDL drivers and skilled tradespeople, is also a factor. As the unemployment rate has declined in the past few years, time to fill has definitely increased.

Lack of Responsiveness

Staffing agencies are busy places with a lot going on. For instance, step inside our Portland headquarters and you’ll see worn carpet in the entry and a steady stream of phone calls. But the account managers and recruiters who work on your account should return calls and emails in a reasonable amount of time. And, they should even be checking in with you when you’re out of touch to make sure things are going well.

Many Candidates that Don’t Work Out

Is your temp agency continually sending you candidates who don’t show up, or employees who aren’t living up to your expectations? The agency may not understand what it takes to succeed at your workplace, or may not be giving your account the attention it deserves.

If you’re facing any of these challenges, now is the time to look into a new temp agency. We provide staffing in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Idaho, Maryland and Delaware, and would love to talk about how we can help.
