The construction and real estate markets have made a major comeback, as illustrated by the cranes dotting skylines and buildings taking shape. The challenge now is a construction labor shortage.
Employers added 19,000 construction jobs in the United States in February 2016, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Residential specialty trade contractors are in especially high demand. That follows very significant gains last fall.
Whereas during the recent recession millions of construction workers were out of jobs, employers today are facing the opposite problem. This construction labor shortage is especially true for skilled laborers like welders, electricians, carpenters and plumbers. A survey by the National Association of Home Builders found that 76% of residential home builders are concerned about the cost and availability of labor in 2016, and they only expect this problem to increase.
A job sitting unfilled for days, weeks or months at a construction site is a big problem. So a staffing firm is a major asset to a construction company in today’s economic landscape. Whoever does your company’s hiring (an increasingly arduous process when workers are scarce) just needs to make one call, and a team of recruiting experts will get to work finding the employees you need.
DPI Staffing is a one-stop-shop for construction staffing – not only can we provide employees like general laborers and skilled tradespeople, but we also have a security division that specializes in construction security. Contact us today to learn more.
