CASE STUDY: Allied Systems & Tailoring the Recruiting Process for Skilled Trades Workers

June 27, 2013 Recruiting, Staffing

Allied Systems Company is a leader in engineering and manufacturing specialized heavy lift and material handling equipment. It was founded in 1976 as a fabricator of material handling equipment for the wood products industry. Allied’s skilled engineering and manufacturing teams construct custom equipment and vehicles to customer design. In addition, they design equipment to the customer’s exact standards. Manufacturing happens on site in Sherwood, Oregon.

Finding CNC Machinists & Other Skilled Trades Positions to Keep Up with Growth in Production

With the manufacturing industry boom following the recession, the need to source and maintain skilled trades workers—especially CNC machinists and welders—became increasingly difficult. And Allied’s specialty requires a steady supply of reliable candidates without having to worry about the minutiae of the sourcing process.

The Solution:
Trustworthy Collaboration & Investment in Fine-Tuning the Recruitment Process

One size does not fit all in the hiring process. In working with Dave McCart, HR Director at Allied, the DPI Staffing team tailored its approach to sourcing, screening, and recommending skilled trade candidates to meet Allied’s specific needs. “DPI’s staff was willing to tour our facilities and learn our requirements for hiring experienced, solid and long term employees,” said McCart. By deepening the relationship and asking what worked and what did not work for Allied, DPI Staffing was able to successfully create a hiring workflow. And this kept interruptions to Allied’s core competencies to a minimum, while providing them the maximum benefits of skilled candidates.

The Benefits:

DPI took care to develop a holistic sourcing and hiring process up front. So high-quality CNC machinists, welders, and other key Allied positions are filled with reliable, dedicated workers. As a result, Allied has seen reduced turnover, building skills, and Allied’s core business and reputation continuing to flourish.
